Career. Main works.
In my childhood I wanted to become a successful comics cartoonist and I continued drawing original comics. However, in my youth, when I came to know Sanpei Shirato and Shinzi Nagashima, my style changed gradually toward the literary route. For a while, I drew major boys comics too. After entering university, I submitted boys comics to a publishing company, but I was criticized and my confidence was shattered. In those days, I was influenced by pure literature, including the works of Dostoevski and Naoya Shiga, and my zeal to create literary comics increased.
A comic "The loneliness of pretty face-hunter Shou" that I drew at the age of 19 was a runner up for the four seasons prize of
Kodansha's "Afternoon magazine contest" (unpublished). I lost patience when my new story proposal was not accepted. I continued to complete comics and contribute to Shogakukan.
"Yasuko" won the Big Comic "fine work" prize (also unpublished). I was trained under Mr,Oshima. Still my story proposals were not
accepted. I finished the work "Cafe" and it did not make it past the second examination. When " My turn of cleaning (Souzi Touban)", which I regard as my best work, was rejected in the first examination then I lost energy completely. I concentrated for a while on my studies and graduation thesis and participated in a teacher-training course.
In those days, I began my membership activities with a literary coterie magazine. I started the individual circle Kocho-sha and
participated in Comic market and Comitia. I also participated in the literary coterie magazine "Piro", and drew some unique comics, such as "M" "J". "The Lady Who Loved Insects"(Mushimezuru-Himegimi)" was self-published. But I could not succeed in the world of coterie magazines and became very tired.
Again, I returned to Shogakukan, but Mr,Oshima had moved to Chao magazine. At his recommendation, my mentor became Mr, Sonoda of Big Comic Superiall magazine. I tried hard for over a year and produced "The witch on the roof (Yane no Ue no Majo)", which won the Shogakukan youth comics fine work grand-prize.
Then, while acting as Mr,Takata's assistant I presented one comic per year. I introduced "Knife in pocket" and "Shai-ko and the bookworm" in an introductory special edition. I then presented some adult works under the name of Erosu-shujin. Several pieces were in the horror comics magazine of the Wani Magazine Company. I participated with drawings in work of appendix comics with the
picture-book writer "Snowman of Kitikiti town" of Hukuinnkan'sOokina-Pocket magazine.
